The Kumaoni Cottage

For those who have a deep romantic desire to live in a cute, cozy, mountain top pahadi ghar, with beautiful views, in the wilderness, away from the hustle bustle of towns, we have curated Althea. Althea is a single room cottage and a part of The Estate which has 6 rooms.​

Walk into this cottage and feel the authentic Kumaoni vibe. The cottage has been built from the ruins, painstakingly restored by Kumanoni masons and artisans, to its current charm. The restoration has been done by locally sourced stones and mud in true Kumaoni architecture style. The structure uses mud to bind the stones together and the technique is called “mitti chinai”. The interior walls of the cottage are mud plastered traditionally called “mitti lipai” to retain natural warmth. The entire space is a breathing structure due to the usage of natural materials only.

At Althea, its ensuite washroom is as big as its room with a big window next to the shower area where one can enjoy a hot shower with beautiful views. The bedroom has a small moonroof, one can gaze at night sky while lying in the bed. The interiors are rustic with plush furnishings and premium bath fittings, mattress is specially procured keeping in mind back comfort in mind,  24 hour running hot water, a Bukhari (fireplace) in the room to keep it warm in winters. The cottage has a veranda and a outdoor bed with a beautiful canopy, ideal for reading a book while soaking in the sun, making the entire experience of staying at Althea a very unique, romantic  and private experience.
